First United Arab Emirates Astronaut Launches into Space

The spaceship carrying the United Arab Emirates’ first astronaut blasted off for a mission on the International Space Station, Wednesday, September 25, from Kazakhstan. Emerati Hazzaa Ali Almansoori was joined by NASA astronaut Jessica Meir and Oleg Skripochka of the Russian space agency Roscosmos on the journey. A Russian Soyuz rocket lifted off on time in the afternoon from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan and successfully entered orbit and was scheduled to dock at the ISS six hours after launch. (AP)
